Day-To-Day Femininity

Through this collection, I aimed to capture visualizations of the everyday glimpses that embody femininity, extending beyond the traditional confinement. Femininity, to me, encompasses a multitude of interactions, scenes, people, objects, and settings - it is not merely a woman. In its curation, I deliberately allowed certain photographs to be captured spontaneously, embracing the authenticity of candid moments. Others were posed to enhance aesthetic qualities. By incorporating both approaches, I sought to highlight the diverse facets of femininity, from its raw, unfiltered form to its carefully curated presence. It is my belief that femininity exists in the mundane as well as the intimate - in the subtle nuances and the grand gestures. Not all aspects have lovely backgrounds, but there are ways even they can be beautiful.

This image was inspired by the daily expression people can participate in, in endless and creative ways. Accessories are small, personal statements one can curate onto themselves in dramatic or simple ways, and can be linked to intimate meanings and cultural connections.

The topic this image hints at is bodily autonomy and choices, or lack thereof, surrounding women's bodies. I conveyed this topic in a more lighthearted, ironic lens, depicting a pierced flower, symbolizing the flower of a woman and her doing what she wishes with her body. "My flower, my choice" in a sense.

The feeling of soaking up life and existing in a simple moment was the association I linked when I took this picture. This image was a candid snapshot, in a moment that felt still and worth staying in.

Private communion in the bathroom is a classic experience within girlhood, and it remains a recurring experience into adulthood. I felt this situation needed to be highlighted as a core experience linked with femininity.

"Beauty is pain", but pain can be depicted by beauty products - this image is representative of a different perspective on the common phrase. Because yes, beauty standards can be hard to reach, but expression through cosmetics does not always need to bend to appearance expectations. With makeup, so many narratives and forms of creative expression can be depicted. So with this image, I wanted to depict an abnormal, creative, and fun use of makeup.

This image is a spontaneous snapshot of a moment where two people seem heavily in awe of the earth around them. This is a portrayal of appreciating Mother Nature in her grandness.

A common experience for the younger generation is described as "rotting", where one works, sleeps, and generally exists within their room. I curated a heavily stylized portrait, curating a fake depiction of this ugly truth. This links with femininity in the sense that femininity can sometimes feel like a performance, hiding unappealing situations.

Evidence of love can be found in the simplest of objects and settings; this image is an example of that. One can see it simply as two pairs of shoes, or one can see the active decision of being comfortable and connected with another, and letting love/kinship bloom through time spent with each other.

This image was inspired by the downside of a common situation where women can feel the need to promote/sell themselves. I took a stylized and ironic approach to this topic by having a more editorial photoshoot advertising a car wash. A funny, repeating motif of drawing attention in with beautiful women.

This image represents the simplicity of community through modern love letters: a simple snapshot of the fridge in my apartment. What it truly is, and notes of support and love left by my roommate and me for each other through our time living together. As well as many gifted magnets we have passed to each other, and objects related to inside jokes, all shared in a shared space.
